SMART GLASS APPLICATIONS
PDLC switchable glass and smart film can provide on-demand visual privacy in suitable applications. Other products, such as electrochromic glazing or transparent display panels, work differently. Select the category that matches your goal and verify the product technology before specifying it.
01 · VEHICLES
Explore switchable glazing concepts for premium vehicles and custom automotive interiors. Automotive glazing is safety-critical, so retrofit work must be approved for the exact vehicle and glass.
Important: Do not assume architectural PDLC film is suitable for windshields, driver windows or moving vehicles. Confirm road regulations, visibility, airbags, defrosting, impact and OEM requirements.

02 · ENTERTAINMENT
Transparent displays and glass-integrated media can create distinctive retail, hospitality and residential experiences. These are display technologies, not the same as a standard PDLC privacy film.
Important: Confirm screen technology, brightness, transparency, viewing angle, heat management and content-control requirements with the display manufacturer.

03 · BOATS & YACHTS
Switchable glazing may support privacy and flexible cabin layouts on suitable vessels. Marine environments require special attention to salt spray, vibration, moisture, UV exposure and electrical safety.
Important: Do not assume a standard architectural product is marine-grade. Request salt-spray, moisture, vibration, UV and applicable marine electrical documentation for the exact assembly.

04 · RESIDENTIAL
Switchable privacy glass can help create clean, flexible interiors where visual privacy is needed on demand—subject to product suitability and the lighting conditions.
Important: Confirm moisture protection, electrical safety, edge sealing, cleaning methods and whether the product delivers the required privacy in real use.

05 · BUSINESS
For architects, interior designers, fit-out contractors and facility managers, switchable glass can make suitable internal spaces more adaptable.
Important: Healthcare and hospitality projects may require specific hygiene, fire, electrical, maintenance and local building approvals.

06 · BUILDINGS
For developers, contractors and property owners, switchable glass or compatible retrofit film may add visual privacy to selected interior glazing without traditional blinds.
Important: Privacy switching alone does not guarantee thermal insulation, solar heat rejection, soundproofing or complete opacity. Request verified test data for those requirements.

HOW IT WORKS
PDLC (polymer-dispersed liquid crystal) smart glass uses an electrical field to change how the layer scatters light. Many products appear more transparent when powered and translucent when power is removed. Product behaviour and specifications vary.
Electrochromic glass changes tint through a different mechanism and may be used for solar-control purposes. Transparent OLED or LED display systems are designed to show images and are not simply switchable privacy glass.
Choosing the correct category helps set realistic expectations for privacy, tint, display performance, power use and cost.
For on-demand visual privacy in compatible windows and partitions.
For applications requiring controllable tint; verify solar and optical performance data.
For media, retail and interactive display experiences using compatible screen hardware.

Direct answers about technology, power, durability and retrofit options.
PDLC smart glass contains a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal layer. Applying the specified electrical supply changes the layer's light-scattering behaviour. Many systems appear more transparent when powered and translucent when power is removed. Exact performance varies by product.
Power consumption depends on the product, active area, controller and operating schedule. Request the manufacturer's measured wattage, voltage, standby consumption and control specifications for the exact system.
Suitability depends on the complete glass or film assembly, operating-temperature limits, seals, wiring, moisture exposure and installation. Marine installations also require confirmation of salt-spray resistance and vessel-specific requirements. Obtain product-specific test reports before purchase.
Some existing glass can accept retrofit smart film, but compatibility depends on glass condition, dimensions, surface, edge protection, wiring and exposure. A site assessment and manufacturer approval are recommended.
Not necessarily. Switchable privacy glass primarily changes visual appearance or light scattering. Thermal performance depends on the full glazing system and any independently verified solar-control properties. Request documented solar heat gain and energy-performance data for the proposed assembly.
